PRINCETON, Ky. (AP) — An Amber Alert was issued Monday morning for a 5-year-old western Kentucky girl police say they believe is with her father, who is suspected of killing her mother. Troopers were called to the child's home in Princeton on Sunday and found that her mother, Kelly Black, had been fatally shot, Kentucky State Police said in a statement. The girl is believed to be with her father, Byron Black, who has an arrest warrant issued for murder in the slaying of Kelly Black, police said. The man and girl have not been heard from since Friday, according to the alert. They are believed to be traveling in a white 1996 Chevrolet Silverado with California plates, the alert said.

Officials have released the names of two workers trapped when a coal mine preparation plant collapsed earlier this week in eastern Kentucky. Martin County Judge Executive Lon Lafferty identified the men as Billy Ray Daniels and Alvin Nees, news outlets report. Daniels died amid rescue efforts at the scene and Nees is believed to be trapped beneath the rubble. Officials briefly made contact with Daniels, but announced Wednesday he died amid rescue efforts. In the second full day of rescue efforts, officials are removing the debris into smaller piles for the search, Lafferty said.

Authorities said Thursday they have not had any communication with the second worker since the building collapsed at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Inez, a town of about 500 people. In the second full day of rescue efforts, officials are removing the debris into smaller piles for the search. Slinker estimated that up to 50 rescue workers and 25 support personnel at a time were involved in the search.

The status of the crew members was not immediately known, Army spokeswoman Nondice Thurman said in a statement early on Thursday to Reuters, without detailing the number of people who were on board. LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A school bus crashed over an embankment and landed on its side Monday morning in rural Kentucky, sending the driver and 18 children to hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to severe, authorities said Monday. Students from elementary age through high school were aboard the bus en route to classes when the crash occurred on a state highway near Salyersville in eastern Kentucky, said Superintendent Chris Meadows of Magoffin County Schools. Andy Beshear said in a tweet that Kentucky State Police were on the scene, and “we are responding swiftly.”The bus exited state Route 40 near Salyersville and went over an embankment, state Trooper Michael Coleman said. Some of the injured were flown from the crash by helicopter and others were taken by ambulances and private vehicles, officials said. “That’s typical in any rural area where you have a lot of winding roads,” he saidThe school bus did not have seat belts, Meadows said.
